Google’s technology company has officially expanded the Live Translate feature through earbuds and headphones to devices running the iOS operating system. This support enables Google Translate users to translate conversations heard via Apple earbuds or AirPods directly or with almost no delay. The feature, supported by AI Gemini and released in beta version at the end of 2025, previously only supported Android earbuds. However, it is now extended to users of Apple’s audio accessory devices. According to Google Translate Product Manager Sasha Kapur, the feature can be run on several AirPods, including AirPods 4, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Pro 3. ‘In the past, having dinner with aunts and uncles while chatting in Punjabi felt like watching a film without subtitles. With Live Translate, I can follow the conversation and jokes instantly,’ said Kapur, sharing her experience using the feature. In addition to translating, the feature will also maintain the tone, intonation, and rhythm of each speaker to provide a more natural and meaningful chatting experience. The direct translation feature from headphones can already be tried by AirPods users through the Google Translate app. In this way, users will hear the voices of conversation partners or surroundings, accompanied by translation voices from Google’s translation service. At the end of last year, the direct translation feature in earbuds and headphones was only available in the United States, Mexico, and India. Now, more users can use similar features, including users in France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Thailand, and the UK.
