Google Wallet NFC Payments Suddenly Fail on Chinese Android Phones
Users of Google Wallet have reported disruptions to the tap-to-pay feature on several Chinese-brand Android phones. The complaints emerged after a Google Play Services update, which allegedly caused contactless transactions to be declined even though the devices met all necessary requirements.
One user reported on the Google Wallet community forum that they were unable to make payments using their Honor Magic 8 Pro (China version). They stated that despite setting Google Wallet as the default NFC service and meeting all prerequisites, transactions were rejected. The user noted that the problem began following the update to Google Play Services version 26.28.33.
Attempts to fix the issue, including disabling and re-enabling GMS services, signing out of all Google accounts, reinstalling Google Wallet, and clearing the app cache, proved unsuccessful. The user expressed hope that Google and manufacturers such as Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Honor would address the problem.
Similar reports have surfaced on the XDA forum, where a user of the Vivo X200 Ultra confirmed that NFC payments via Google Wallet had stopped working after two years of normal use. When attempting to pay at a POS terminal, an error message appears stating the card cannot be processed. The user contacted Google support but received no resolution, and noted that switching to a global firmware version is not a viable option for many affected models.
