Jakarta (ANTARA) - Google has reportedly introduced an update to Android Auto that provides greater convenience for drivers when using media apps while driving. Arena EV reported on Thursday (28 May) local time that the feature is now available for Android Auto beta version 17.0.162144 users, allowing drivers to switch between audio apps with a simple swipe. The update allows users to switch between active media apps directly via ‘cards’ displayed on the vehicle’s head unit screen. According to reports, the cards display installed media apps, enabling users to switch between music or podcast services without manually opening each app. The feature is seen as a significant improvement to the Android Auto user experience, as the current stable version does not support quick media app switching. Additionally, there is no convenient way to return to the previous media app, making audio service switching inefficient during travel. The update follows Google’s recent update to the media app switcher in Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3. In that OS update, Google made the media app switching interface clearer and more accessible. A similar approach is now being applied to Android Auto. The new feature is expected to enhance user comfort, particularly for those frequently switching between music streaming, internet radio, and podcast services while driving. The swipeable card system allows quicker audio switching without distracting drivers. However, the feature remains limited to Android Auto beta users and is not yet available in the stable release. Google has not announced a global rollout schedule.
