Google updates AI Overviews and AI Mode

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Google is updating its artificial intelligence features, AI Overviews and AI Mode, on its search engine service by displaying search results processed from various sources including social media, expert blogs, and online forums such as Reddit. According to an Engadget report on Wednesday (6/5), Google will display “previews of perspectives from public online discussions, social media, and other direct sources” through a new section that appears in search results with artificial intelligence support. In examples shown by the company, there is a section labelled “Expert Advice” that displays quotes from forums, WordPress blogs, and Reddit along with links to the original sources. Google also plans to add additional context to those links, such as the creator’s name, account, or related community, to make it easier for users to evaluate the information source before opening the link. In addition, the company will begin recommending long-form articles for deeper topic exploration at the end of artificial intelligence (AI) answers and displaying more direct links to sources within AI responses, not just at the bottom of search results. For users who subscribe to certain publications and link them to their Google account, sources from those publications will also be highlighted in AI responses. Using Reddit and online discussion platforms as information sources is not new for Google. The latest updates may be aimed at highlighting the use of Reddit, which some people consider a more useful source of information than Google, as a reference in search results. Google claims that in 2025, their AI search features will drive an increase in the number of searches and generate more high-quality clicks to sites that serve as reference sources. AI Overviews and AI Mode allow users to obtain direct answers without having to open other websites separately.
