Google Updates AI Mode, Now Web Search and AI Can Be Opened Simultaneously
Google has released an update for its artificial intelligence-based search feature, AI Mode. This update changes the user experience and the way people browse the internet.
Previously, when using AI Mode, users had to switch tabs first to open web pages from search results. Now, those pages can be opened side-by-side directly within a single web screen.
With this feature, when users click on a link while using AI Mode, the web page will appear directly next to the AI display without opening a new tab.
“Our early testers liked that they no longer had to constantly switch tabs to get help while reading long articles or watching videos,” Google wrote in a blog post.
According to Google, this update allows the side-by-side display of Search and web pages to keep users focused on their tasks while exploring various relevant web pages.
After selecting a link, the product page will open next to the AI display. Users can then immediately ask follow-up questions about the product, such as ease of use or price information.
AI Mode will then work by utilising the context from the open page, as well as additional information from various web sources, to provide relevant answers.
Google states that this approach makes it easier for users to explore relevant sites, compare details, and ask follow-up questions while maintaining the search context.
In addition to the side-by-side display, Google has introduced a new way to search using multiple tabs at once.
In Google Chrome on desktop or mobile devices, users can tap a new “plus” menu located in the search box on the “New Tab” page or in AI Mode.
With this feature, users can combine various sources, such as tabs, images, or files, to provide additional context for AI-based searches.
Google gives an example: when searching for hiking trails, users can combine several open tabs and then request recommendations for similar trails in other locations.
Another example: when studying for an exam, users can input context from notes or open materials to request additional explanations from the AI.
For now, the AI Mode update is only available to users in the United States. Google states that the feature will be gradually expanded to more regions in the future.
