Google has signed a US$30 billion deal to lease computing power from SpaceX for a duration of 32 months. The search giant is required to pay US$920 million (approximately Rp16 trillion) per month to SpaceX until June 2029. This move follows SpaceX’s acquisition of xAI in February 2026, which significantly expanded its data centre capabilities. Notably, five years ago, Google provided computing resources to SpaceX to support its Starlink satellite internet services; now, the roles have reversed. Since the acquisition of xAI, both companies, which are owned by Elon Musk, operate massive data centres in the US known as ‘Colossus’, boasting a total computing capacity of over 2 GW. The combined estimated value of ‘SpaceX/AI’ has reached US$1.25 trillion. This agreement between Google and SpaceX comes just days before SpaceX’s planned Initial Public Offering (IPO). According to the agreement documents, Google will utilise approximately 110,000 Nvidia graphics processing units (GPUs), along with central processing units, memory, and other components housed within SpaceX data centres. The contract is set to run from October 2026 to June 2029. A spokesperson for Google Cloud informed CNBC via email that the deal was made ‘to ensure we have the capacity to meet the surge in customer demand for our agent platform, Gemini Enterprise, which has been even higher than anticipated.’ Google’s parent company, Alphabet, originally invested in SpaceX in 2015 when the company was valued at just US$12 billion. Currently, SpaceX is planning to go public with a valuation exceeding US$1.75 trillion, and the Google deal is expected to further boost its IPO valuation.
