Google restricts Gemini Intelligence to premium Android smartphones

Google is currently limiting the availability of its Gemini Intelligence virtual assistant and AI-based bot to premium Android smartphones. According to reports from GSM Arena, these Gemini Intelligence features are likely to debut on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8.

Google recently unveiled Gemini Intelligence, which includes a suite of advanced AI features capable of automating multi-step tasks and running autonomously in the background. Gemini Intelligence can search for and process information, as well as interact with various applications and websites on behalf of the user.

Google has also confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S26 series and the Google Pixel 10 will receive Gemini Intelligence later this year. Notes on the official Android website describe Gemini Intelligence as a premium and exclusive feature. A primary requirement for supported devices is a minimum of 12GB of RAM, indicating that the AI model requires high performance to run directly on the device.

Furthermore, devices must support AICore, an Android system service that provides APIs for executing AI tasks using the Gemini Nano model on-device. Gemini Intelligence specifically requires Gemini Nano version 3 or newer, a technology currently supported by only a limited number of devices.

Google has also established several additional requirements, such as the use of flagship chipsets, passing specific quality tests, and maintaining low crash rates during field use. Supported devices for Gemini Intelligence are also required to offer five Android operating system updates and six years of quarterly security updates. Support for the Android Virtualization Framework (AVF) and pKVM is also mandatory.

Additionally, Google has listed requirements for the latest media performance, including spatial audio, low-light and HDR capabilities, and annual gaming driver updates. These stringent requirements make the list of compatible devices highly exclusive.
