Google Releases Gemini App for Mac, Accessible Directly Without a Browser

Google has officially released the Gemini AI application for Mac devices. This app represents the first expansion of Gemini to desktop platforms, after it was previously available on Android and iOS.

With this application, Mac device users can now access Gemini AI directly from their desktop without having to open a web browser.

Google states that the Gemini app for macOS is designed to provide a “native desktop experience” that users can access more conveniently.

Access to Gemini is made quick through several options, including the keyboard shortcut Option + Space, as well as a menu bar featuring the Liquid Glass design on macOS.

Users will see a “Ask Gemini” command column with a compact Liquid Glass design. On the left side, there is an add icon for uploading files and tools, such as local files, Google Drive, Photos, and NotebookLM.

Like typical AI assistants, Gemini on Mac devices also provides options to help create images, videos, music, canvases, in-depth research, and guide learning.

For example, users can share a window containing complex graphs and ask Gemini to explain the key points.

This capability makes Gemini not just a chatbot, but also a work assistant capable of understanding context more deeply.

Meanwhile, on the right side, there are options for model switching, voice input, and opening the full application view.

With a display similar to the web version, users can adapt immediately without needing to relearn the interface, but with a more practical experience due to direct desktop integration.

However, this app can only be run on devices with macOS version 15 or newer, as reported by KompasTekno from 9to5google.

Google describes this launch as an initial stage. In the future, the company plans to develop Gemini into a more proactive, personal, and reliable desktop assistant.
