Google Pixel Tag arrives as 'AirTag' for Android users

Google has officially introduced a tracking device to rival Apple’s AirTag, the Google Pixel Tag, which promises strong compatibility with Android devices. Unveiled at the Made by Google event, the Pixel Tag features an elongated pill shape, somewhat resembling Samsung’s SmartTag 2. According to Engadget on Wednesday (12/8), the Pixel Tag is quite compact, measuring 1.8 inches (4.5 centimetres) in height and 0.2 inches (0.5 centimetres) in thickness. However, the precise distance measurement capability between two devices, known as Bluetooth Channel Sounding, will only function with the Android 16 operating system or newer and requires a device with Bluetooth 6.0 specifications. For more precise tracking, including distance and direction, the Google Pixel Tag is also equipped with Ultra Wideband. In terms of durability, Google has given the Pixel Tag an IP67 rating, ensuring resistance to dust and water splashes. The technology company also claims the Pixel Tag can still operate optimally after being submerged for 30 minutes at a depth of one metre. For those interested, the Pixel Tag is priced at 29 US dollars (approximately Rp518,000) with the earliest shipping scheduled for 20 August 2026. A four-pack option is also available for 99 US dollars (approximately Rp1.7 million), making it easier for users who wish to track multiple items, such as pets or children, simultaneously.
