Google Maps has achieved deeper integration with Gemini. Users can now ask any question within the platform, such as finding the nearest place to charge their mobile phone from their current location, thanks to an AI-powered feature called Ask Maps.

Users simply ask specific questions in Ask Maps, and the platform responds in detail, enriched with information from previous interactions with Google Maps.

“This is personalised for you and enables you to turn plans into action,” said Google product manager Andrew Duchi, cited by The Verge on Friday, 13 March 2026.

“Less scrolling, more exploring,” he added.

Duchi provided an example of searching for vegetarian restaurants at a particular location. He added that he wanted a comfortable atmosphere and availability for four people at a specific time.

With Gemini, this request is analysed. Maps will provide several options, analysing reviews and photos, including places that have been favourited or previously interacted with in the past.

Miriam Daniel, VP and general manager of Google Maps, stated that Gemini’s responses depend on data from Maps. No information from other applications such as Gmail will be included.

Meanwhile, personalised responses come from previous searches on Maps or relevant Search history. The search location has also been saved or entered into a favourites list.

Duchi also denied that Google plans to allow restaurants or hotels to pay for more prominent placement than others in the recommendation results. However, he also added that he could not speculate on long-term monetisation plans.

According to him, currently paid placement does not affect the locations that appear in Ask Maps recommendations.
