Google Launches Googlebook, New Laptop Replacing Chromebook
Google has announced a new AI-based laptop, Googlebook. Its arrival comes more than 15 years after the Chromebook, a device for cloud computing, was first introduced.
“We are combining the best of Android, advanced apps on Google Play and a modern OS for intelligence, and ChromeOS which brings the world’s most popular browser,” said Alex Kuscher, Senior Director of Laptops & Tablets at Google, quoted on Wednesday (13/5/2026).
“The result is Googlebook: a new laptop category prioritising ease of use in the style of Gemini, designed to work continuously with devices in everyday life and supported by premium hardware,” he added.
For AI, Googlebook users can apply it to daily activities. Through the Magic Pointer, built with the Google DeepMind team to make using Gemini easier.
To use it, simply move the cursor to a part of the screen and it will turn into Gemini. For example, to a date in an email to schedule a meeting or to visualise a selected image.
Another feature is creating custom widgets with commands. Gmail and Calendar can be incorporated into a single personalised dashboard.
The laptop is also optimised for the Android ecosystem, making the transition between laptop and Android even smoother. Operating phone apps can be done through the laptop app.
“We are also making it easier to access files from the phone directly from the Googlebook file explorer. With Quick Access, you can more easily view, search or insert phone files on the laptop without having to transfer them,” he explained.
Regarding the laptop body itself, Kuscher explained that they are working with several partners such as Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo. Googlebook will be made with expertise and premium materials.
However, not much information was revealed about the device. He only explained that the laptop will come in various shapes and sizes.
There is also no information yet on the price and when this laptop will be publicly launched. We just have to wait for further information.
