Google Introduces 'Video Remix' to Help Users Transform Videos with AI

Google has introduced a new feature called Video Remix, found within the Google Photos service, making it easier for users to creatively transform video clips with the help of artificial intelligence. The feature is supported by the Gemini Omni AI model, which promises to ‘create anything from any input.’ Its release marks another way Google is integrating generative AI features into its applications as it competes with rivals such as Apple, OpenAI, and Adobe. The feature allows users to perform AI-powered video editing in a simple and straightforward manner, requiring no special software beyond the Google ecosystem on their device. Accessible via the Create tab in Google Photos, users can, for example, request cinematic relighting to brighten a dark clip, replace a plain background, or add artistic styles such as watercolour, oil painting, or sketch effects. ‘Now, with Video Remix in Google Photos, you can turn your ordinary videos into share-worthy moments with just a few taps,’ Google stated in a blog post. Video Remix is rolling out starting today to eligible Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers in the US, Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea, and Turkey. The feature is the latest in a series of AI-powered updates to Google Photos, which recently also introduced new editing tools for subtle enhancements such as blemish removal, skin texture improvement, eye brightening, and teeth whitening, as well as a feature that turns photos of clothing into a digital wardrobe for creating outfit ideas and virtual try-ons.
