Google Debuts Fitbit Edge with ECG and Seven-Day Battery Life
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Google has just debuted a new fitness-tracking device called the Fitbit Edge. Key features include a screen, built-in GPS, ECG capabilities and battery life of up to seven days.
According to Gizmochina, cited on Monday (12 October) local time, the Fitbit Edge is set to fill the gap between the screen-free Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch 5.
Priced at US$180 (about Rp3.2 million), the Fitbit Edge gives users a screen and dedicated fitness features without requiring them to buy a full smartwatch.
In terms of specifications, the Fitbit Edge has a 11.5 mm-thick casing made from recycled aluminium.
Google says it is 45 per cent lighter than the casing of the Apple Watch Series 12, while its Hybrid OLED display offers 46 per cent more viewing area than previous Fitbit trackers.
The tracker supports more than 50 workout modes, with live information tailored to each activity. Runners can follow pace targets, HIIT sessions display heart-rate zones, and tracking workouts show elapsed time.
Google has also improved GPS accuracy, claiming tracking is up to 40 per cent more accurate than in the previous generation.
For outdoor exercise, users can leave their phones at home and still track their routes. A built-in altimeter records changes in elevation during hill runs and stair-climbing workouts.
Users do not always need to remember to start tracking: the Fitbit Edge can automatically recognise and record up to 100 types of activity.
Beyond exercise, the Fitbit Edge includes Google’s Health Guardian health-monitoring feature, which tracks changes in real time over time.
Health measurements available on the device include blood pressure and insulin resistance, as well as alerts for an unusually high or low heart rate.
Google Health Premium subscribers also get access to Google Health Coach, which can tailor fitness plans and provide context for discussions with a doctor.
The health tracker also includes an ECG app, although it is not available in every country, along with continuous optical heart-rate monitoring.
For sleep and recovery tracking, the Edge combines skin-temperature readings with sleep-stage and heart-rate variability data to calculate a recovery score each morning.
Google claims the battery lasts up to seven days on a single charge. If the battery is nearly depleted, the company says five minutes of charging with the magnetic charger will provide enough power for a full day of use. The tracker is also water-resistant to a depth of 50 metres.
The Fitbit Edge comes in four colour options, each with an Active Band strap: Obsidian, Fog, Olive and Canyon. Google also sells Active Sport, Performance Loop, Magnet and Metal Links straps separately.
Google has announced the US price but has yet to disclose prices for other regions.
