Google brings screenless Fitbit Air health tracker to India
Google has officially expanded the availability of its screenless health tracker, named Fitbit Air, to the Indian market.
The device is priced at 13,999 Rupees (approximately Rp2.6 million) and is attracting attention due to its lack of a display.
According to Gizmochina on Wednesday (30/9) local time, the Fitbit Air represents an aesthetic shift from standard smartwatches. Instead of innovating the screen’s appearance, Google has created a compact sensor module that can be attached to various interchangeable watch straps.
The absence of a screen allows users to focus on tracking health metrics without being distracted by incoming messages, emails, or vibrating app notifications on their wrists. All data collection occurs in the background, and users only need to check the tracking results via the Google Health app installed on their smartphones.
This design also provides another advantage for the Fitbit Air, as its weight is extremely light and much smaller compared to typical smartwatches. Google even suggests a two-device approach, introducing the Pixel Watch for daytime activities and switching to the Fitbit Air for comfort during the night.
With its minimalist appearance, the device is quite comprehensive, covering a range of standard health sensors. These include continuous heart rate monitoring, resting heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), and blood oxygen levels (SpO2).
The battery life is claimed to last up to seven days on a single charge. When the battery is running low, a five-minute quick charge provides enough power for standard use for 24 hours.
Software integration relies on the Google Health and Google Health Coach applications. The system supports automatic activity detection and also includes computer vision features, where users can log their workouts simply by taking photos of gym equipment or whiteboard routines.
Upon initial purchase, the device will include a three-month trial of Google Health Premium features. The Fitbit Air is available in four colour options: Obsidian, Berry, Lavender, and Fog. The gadget is appealing to those who prefer a unique fitness tracking look similar to a bracelet.
