Google and Intel Forge Partnership to Strengthen AI Infrastructure
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Two technology giants, Google and Intel, have announced a partnership to strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, particularly through Google Cloud services.
Reported by TechCrunch on Thursday local time, under this collaboration, Google Cloud will continue to leverage Intel Xeon processors, including the latest Xeon 6 generation, to support AI workloads, cloud computing, and inference processes.
Google has been using various Xeon processor variants for decades.
This chip development partnership, which began in 2021, will focus on ASIC-based IPUs (application-specific integrated circuits) designed specifically for AI infrastructure needs. Intel did not disclose the investment value of the collaboration.
This step is taken amid rising industry demand for processors, especially CPUs. While GPUs are widely used for training AI models, CPUs remain essential components in running models and supporting the overall AI infrastructure.
According to experts, AI development requires a balanced system, where CPUs and IPUs play key roles in delivering performance, efficiency, and flexibility.
In recent months, several technology companies have begun refocusing on CPU development amid global chip supply limitations.
One example is Arm Holdings, which recently introduced the Arm AGI CPU processor, its first independently developed chip.
