Google AI Search Now Displays User Reviews, Sourced from Forums and Online Communities
Google has added new capabilities to its AI-based search feature, Gemini AI Mode in Google Search, on Wednesday (6/7/2026). A series of new features have been introduced.
Previously, AI Mode only displayed concise answers complete with source links, but now Google is beginning to add additional context from social media, online forums, and internet community discussions.
Information from social media is no longer just a standard reference link. Google now presents it in a new format called “Community Perspectives” or, in some cases, labelled as “Expert Advice”.
According to Google on its official blog, this feature can display excerpts of opinions, personal experiences or reviews, and direct internet user discussions within AI Search results.
The sources are diverse, ranging from Reddit, online forums, WordPress blogs, to other public social media platforms.
This means users can now see the context of “netizens’ chatter” directly from the search page, without having to open each forum individually.
Actually, AI Mode has previously linked to social media sources as answer references. However, through this update, Google appears to want to make community discussions a more prominent part of AI search results.
Google states that this feature is designed to help users obtain direct perspectives from people who truly have experience related to a particular topic.
With this, users can also directly join in on an online discussion about the topic they are searching for.
KompasTekno observations on Thursday (7/5/2026) found that the Community Perspectives or Expert Notes feature has not yet appeared when searching for “tips for recording fancam at a concert using a smartphone” in AI Mode.
It is possible that the Community Perspectives or Expert Notes feature is not yet available because new features are usually rolled out gradually. Or it could be that this feature appears as supplementary context, so it does not always show up in users’ AI Mode search results.
Google has also made source links more visible within AI answers. Now, links will appear right next to the related text, rather than just being collected at the bottom of the answer.
On desktop, users can even hover the cursor over the link to see a website preview before opening it.
According to Google, many users hesitate to click links because they do not know the content of the page that will be opened. Therefore, the company headquartered in Mountain View, California, wants to make information sources feel more transparent and easy to understand.
Not only that, if users subscribe to certain media and link it to their Google account, articles from that media will also be labelled “Subscribed” to appear more prominently in AI Mode and AI Overviews, as compiled by KompasTekno from Engadget and the Google blog.
