Goods distribution never stops: logistics business remains resilient

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Amid global economic pressures and geopolitical uncertainty, the logistics sector is regarded as one of the most resilient industries. The ongoing need for goods distribution keeps logistics businesses said to never die. Gemilang Tarigan, Chairman of the Indonesian Truck Entrepreneurs Association (Aptrindo), said the logistics industry plays an important role in maintaining the national distribution chain, from staples to industrial sectors, as well as export and import activities. He noted that the pressured economy does affect the business world, including the transport and goods distribution sector. However, the need for logistics will persist as long as people’s activities and industry continue. ‘However, we all understand one thing, namely that logistics never stops living while society is still active and requires the distribution of goods,’ he said. Gemilang explained that the logistics industry has a direct link to almost all sectors of the economy. ‘When the industry keeps moving, ports operate, and export and import activity continues, that is where transport personnel/industry come to keep the wheels of the national economy turning,’ he said. Therefore, according to Gemilang, the logistics sector has a fairly strong resilience compared with some other sectors. Although facing challenges such as rising operating costs, toll tariffs, spare parts prices, and fluctuations in fuel prices, distribution activity cannot stop entirely.
