Goodbye Red Dates! No More National Holidays Until Christmas
The national holiday on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, marking the commemoration of Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW, is the last national holiday until the collective leave and national holiday for Christmas or the birth of Jesus Christ on 24-25 December 2026. This means that for the next four months, there will be no more national holidays or collective leave days, particularly midweek.
Based on the Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) of three ministers, the remaining national holidays and collective leave days in 2026 are only two days: Thursday, 24 December 2026, as collective leave for the birth of Jesus Christ, and Friday, 25 December 2026, as the national holiday for Christmas. This is stipulated in the SKB of the Minister of Religious Affairs, the Minister of Manpower, and the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Number 1497 of 2025, Number 2 of 2025, and Number 5 of 2025 concerning National Holidays and Collective Leave for 2026.
Although there are no more national holidays until Christmas, the collective leave and national holiday period for Christmas will provide a long break because the collective leave begins on Thursday, 24 December 2026. For workers who only have weekends off, there will be ample time to enjoy additional days off totalling four days, from Thursday to Sunday, 24-27 December 2026.
