Good Samaritan in Klungkung Beaten by Mob After Reprimanding Drunk Riders
A day labourer was brutally assaulted by a group of drunk men in Klungkung, Bali, after he attempted to help them and admonished them for speeding. The victim, identified as 37-year-old I Kadek Indrawan, a resident of Semarapura Kangin, was attacked on Jalan Mahoni, Semarapura Kelod, on Tuesday (14/7/2026) at around 2:00 p.m. local time.
Klungkung Police Public Relations Head, First Inspector I Dewa Nyoman Alit Purnawibawa, confirmed that a report of the alleged assault had been received. "The victim has reported the incident to the Klungkung Police for further handling. The perpetrators are currently under investigation," he stated on Tuesday evening.
The incident began when the suspected perpetrators were riding a motorcycle at high speed in the area. They were not only speeding but also consuming a traditional alcoholic beverage known as tuak while riding. Upon arriving at the scene, the motorcyclist lost control and fell. Seeing this, the victim, who was nearby, immediately approached to offer assistance and also to warn them against speeding on the road.
"However, the reported individual, who is strongly suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol, did not take kindly to being reprimanded. He flew into a rage and struck the victim," Alit explained. The situation escalated when the suspect’s friends arrived. Instead of breaking up the fight, they joined in and indiscriminately attacked the victim. As a result of the brutal mob attack, the victim sustained serious facial injuries.
"One of the victim’s upper teeth was knocked out. Two other upper teeth are loose. The victim’s mouth area is bruised and swollen from blunt force trauma," Alit detailed. Shortly after the incident, a witness named Komang Nonok (42), who was nearby, attempted to assist the victim. The victim subsequently went to the Klungkung Police to file an official report.
Alit explained that the police have taken several actions, including receiving the official report, escorting the victim to the Klungkung Regional General Hospital for a medical examination, and processing the crime scene. Officers have also interviewed several witnesses and the victim in the effort to track down the perpetrators of the mob attack.
