After being held up since early March 2026 due to the intensifying conflict between the United States and Iran, the vessel Gamsunoro, owned by PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), finally successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday (24/6) at approximately 20:00 local time. This achievement was reached after the company conducted strict risk assessments over the past month.

The Gamsunoro undertook a journey of approximately 16 hours before successfully passing through one of the world’s most strategic shipping lanes. The ship began its movement from the Arabian Gulf at 01:06 Dubai time.

During the voyage, the vessel travelled at a speed of 7.5 knots and arrived at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz at around 13:00 local time. Four hours later, the ship was declared to have successfully crossed the strait and reached a safe point.

The Acting Corporate Secretary of PIS, Vega Pita, stated that the decision to dispatch the Gamsunoro was only made after the company conducted thorough discussions and risk assessments. PIS also strengthened coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Iran.

“The selection of the timing and route through the Strait of Hormuz underwent very strict discussions and risk assessments. We noted dozens of requirements that the ship had to meet, ranging from insurance, technical and operational aspects, and security, to crew readiness, which led to the decision that the ship could begin moving from the Arabian Gulf,” Vega said in an official statement on Thursday (25/6/2026).

Monitored 24 Hours from the Crisis Centre

Vega explained that during the voyage, the Gamsunoro was monitored 24 hours a day. The crew at sea also continuously coordinated with the onshore team stationed at the PIS crisis centre to ensure the voyage proceeded safely.

Furthermore, the company coordinated with various stakeholders and relevant authorities to monitor situational developments in real-time. These steps were taken to ensure all operations were conducted cautiously amidst the ongoing dynamic situation in the region.

Meanwhile, another PIS fleet located in the Arabian Gulf, the VLCC Pertamina Pride, is still in the preparation stage for movement. Preparations are being made by considering security developments, shipping traffic conditions, congestion levels, various other risks, and applicable international recommendations.

“We also request support and prayers for the VLCC Pertamina Pride so that it can also cross the Strait of Hormuz safely,” she concluded.
