Good News! Pertamina Pride Tanker Successfully Navigates Strait of Hormuz

PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has confirmed that the Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) Pertamina Pride has safely navigated the Strait of Hormuz. This success follows the earlier departure of the Gamsunoro vessel from the area. Acting Corporate Secretary of PIS, Vega Pita, stated that both ships, which had been held up since March, can now resume their voyages and operate normally. “Following the success of the Gamsunoro, the Pertamina Pride has also exited the Arabian Gulf area and transited the Strait of Hormuz last night. This means both PIS-owned vessels detained since last March can now continue their journeys and operate as usual,” Vega said in a written statement on Thursday (9/7/2026). The Pertamina Pride began moving on Tuesday, 7 July 2026 at 13:00 Dubai time (16:00 WIB) and successfully passed through the critical area and the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, 8 July 2026 at 00:15 WIB. This achievement demonstrates that the risk mitigation and operational monitoring carried out by PIS have been effective in maintaining shipping safety amidst regional dynamics. “We express our appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, and all parties for their support throughout this period,” said Vega. As with the Gamsunoro, the timing and route selection for the Pertamina Pride to transit the Strait of Hormuz underwent rigorous discussion and risk assessment, noting dozens of requirements that had to be met. These ranged from insurance, technical and operational aspects, and security, to crew readiness, before it was decided the vessel could begin moving from the Arabian Gulf. During the voyage, the ship was monitored 24 hours a day. The crew at sea continuously coordinated with the onshore team on standby at the PIS crisis centre to ensure navigational safety. Vega explained that all crew members of the Pertamina Pride are safe and sound. The tanker, with a capacity of 2 million barrels of crude oil, is now continuing its journey towards Cilacap to deliver and safeguard national energy security. The Pertamina Pride is expected to take 15 days to complete the voyage and arrive in Indonesia on 23 July. PIS continues to intensively monitor security conditions on international shipping lanes and coordinate with various stakeholders to ensure crew safety, cargo security, and the smooth distribution of national energy.
