On Saturday, Prabowo emphasized that the good neighbor policy is an implementation of the free and active foreign policy rooted in the 1945 Constitution.

“As soon as I become President, I declare that Indonesia’s foreign policy is free and active, and non-aligned. We want to be the good neighbor, and our policy is the good neighbor policy. Therefore, I improve relations with Singapore, along with completion of agreements that have been untouched for decades,” he remarked.

“We have resolved the issue with Vietnam and China. Thank God, there are not as many disputes in Natuna now. I am working (to resolve issues) with Malaysia. We are also on good terms with PNG (Papua New Guinea) and Australia, and Thailand as well,” he continued.

Prabowo addressed that his foreign policy reflects the thinking of past figures, starting with Indonesian founding fathers Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta, and then also Sutan Sjahrir.

“My ideology is rooted in the teachings of the nation’s founders. Bung Karno (Sukarno) did not belong to just one party, but to all Indonesians. Our strength lies in unity and drawing strength from all sides. While many regions are often at war, Indonesia remains free and active. A thousand friends are too few, one enemy is too many,” he emphasized.

Prabowo then cited Indonesia’s approach toward its partner countries, emphasizing that the nation treats all allies equally regardless of their size and never discriminates against friendly nations.
