Thus, Indonesian society will also enjoy a long weekend. A Brief History of Good Friday The event of Good Friday is commemorated as one of the holy days in Christian history. It is the day when Jesus Christ completed his mission on earth and redeemed the sins of humanity. Towards the end of his life, Jesus gathered with his disciples. However, one of Jesus’ disciples named Judas betrayed him instead. Judas cruelly informed the Roman soldiers of Jesus’ whereabouts. With information from Judas, the Roman soldiers took Jesus from the Garden of Gethsemane to the court. Soon after, he was sentenced to crucifixion. Walking on foot, Jesus carried his own cross. The Saviour was crucified on Golgotha Hill until he died. Then Joseph of Arimathea lowered Christ’s body from the cross. The body of the Son of Mary was then shrouded and buried. Jesus then rose from the dead after three days, and that event is known as Easter Sunday.
