Gontor to open branch in Aceh

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Gontor modern Islamic boarding school is
preparing its operation in Aceh, expecting to admit about 250
male students.

Abdullah Syukri Zakarsyi, the headmaster of the Aceh branch of
Gontor boarding school, said the new academic year would start
soon, pending completion of its school building.

The new boarding school, which occupies some 100 hectares of
land in Seulawah in Aceh Besar regency, will be the 10th branch
of the Gontor school, which is based in East Java.

The school in Aceh will only accept male students and will
send female students to Gontor boarding school in East Java,
Abdullah said.

Teachers from the Gontor school in Java will be hired in the
new branch.

Prominent alumni of Gontor are, among others, Nahdlatul Ulama
chairman Hasyim Muzadi, Muhammadiyah chairman Din Syamsuddin and
Muslim scholar Nurcholish Madjid. -- Antara
