The Lamongan Regency administration, together with the Bengawan Solo River Basin Agency (BBWS), will soon begin dredging sedimentation using the dredging method at Gondang Reservoir this coming August. This effort aims to support the maximisation of irrigation volume for agriculture. Lamongan Regent Yuhronur Efendi stated that this initiative is being undertaken to restore the capacity of Gondang Reservoir. The initial volume of Gondang Reservoir was 25 million cubic metres, whereas the current volume is 19.7 million cubic metres. The reduced capacity of Gondang Reservoir significantly impacts the optimisation of agricultural irrigation, given that the reservoir’s volume has the potential to irrigate 10,588 hectares of rice fields across five sub-districts: Sugio, Sukodadi, Turi, Kembangbahu, and Lamongan. The Head of the Water Resources and Construction Development Agency of Lamongan Regency, Erwin Sulistya Pambudi, explained that the dredging of sedimentation in Gondang Reservoir is part of a routine maintenance agenda by the Lamongan Regency Government. However, the dredging method is being implemented for the first time this August. The Chair of the Gondang Reservoir Irrigation Area Farmers Water Users Association, Ramijo, welcomed the dredging of sedimentation, stating that maximising agricultural irrigation from the reservoir provides significant benefits for the success of planting seasons I through III for local farmers.
