Gomies hospitalized with typhoid
JAKARTA (JP): Asian Games (Asiad) gold medalist, Wiem Gomies, has been admitted to Maluku Protestant Church Hospital in Ambon with typhoid.
Antara news agency reported Gomies had suffered a fever and felt dizzy since March 26 but had forced himself to attend the Maluku governor's office for personal business reasons.
The former boxing champion in the President's Cup, and a member of Indonesia's contingent for the 1972 Munich Olympics, had abdominal surgery last December after coaching the Asiad team in Cuba.
Forced to recuperate in Jakarta, Gomies missed out on seeing his son, Bara Gomies, compete in last year's Asiad. (yan)
