Golkar's Response to Viral 'Mas Bahlil Ganteng' Song

Golkar Party Secretary-General Muhammad Sarmuji has welcomed the viral ‘MBG’ or ‘Mas Bahlil Ganteng’ song on TikTok, stating he does not object to it. Sarmuji said the song reflects netizens’ creativity in appreciating the efforts of Golkar Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia, the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, in securing fuel supplies amid global energy uncertainties and maintaining stable subsidised fuel prices. ‘We’re taking it in stride. The song is cute, funny, and entertaining. If it brings joy to the public, Golkar is happy too,’ Sarmuji told reporters on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. Sarmuji encouraged the public to enjoy the MBG song without over-politicising it. The ‘Mas Bahlil Ganteng’ song has featured in numerous TikTok videos. With its childlike melody and humorous lyrics, it has amused netizens and is often used as background music for creative content. The song gained further traction after content creator and influencer Sania Leonardo posted a reaction video on her TikTok account @panggilakubambang. Investigation revealed the song was first popularised by the @vokaliz_netizen account. It was not composed manually by a musician but is believed to have been created using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. This is not the first time Bahlil has been the subject of online memes. Last year, social media memes went viral criticising fuel shortages at private petrol stations. Bahlil responded to social media memes criticising him, stating he was troubled by personal attacks. He recounted being insulted since childhood as the child of non-officials, with his mother working as a house cleaner and father as a construction labourer. Bahlil stated his policies follow President Prabowo Subianto’s directives, and he would not step down despite attempts to interfere with the government. ‘If people make memes, I forgive them. It’s fine. Criticising policies is acceptable, but personal attacks bordering on racism are not,’ Bahlil said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on 24 October 2025.
