Golkar Urges Government to Ensure Rights of Nine Indonesians Subjected to Violence in Israel

JAKARTA — Golkar Party’s Deputy Chairman Ace Hasan Syadzily has urged the government to ensure the rights of nine Indonesian citizens subjected to violence upon being detained by Israeli forces.

He specifically highlighted the need to address alleged violations and mistreatment by Israeli authorities during their detention.

‘It is crucial to confirm that the citizens’ rights are upheld, and if violence occurred, there must be consequences,’ Ace stated at Golkar’s Central Leadership Office in Jakarta on Sunday (24 May 2026).

He also condemned Israel’s interception and detention of the nine citizens participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission.

‘This violates humanitarian principles and international humanitarian law, which mandates protection for journalists and humanitarian activists carrying out their duties,’ said the Lemhanas Governor.

The nine citizens, detained by Israel in mid-May 2026, returned to Indonesia on Sunday (24 May 2026).

According to Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI), the individuals include Andi Angga Prasadewa from Rumah Zakat, who was aboard the Josef ship and detained by Israel; Thoudy Badai, a Republika journalist; Rahendro Herubowo, an Inews journalist; and Andre Prasetyo Nugroho, a TV Tempo journalist, all on the Ozgurluk vessel; and Bambang Noroyono (Abeng), a Republika journalist, aboard the BoraLize.

‘Today in the afternoon, with gratitude to Allah SWT, Almighty God, we welcome back our fellow citizens involved in Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0,’ said Sugiono at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Cengkareng, Tangerang, Banten, on Sunday (24 May 2026).

He noted that their return was due to diplomatic efforts by the Indonesian government.

‘We extend special thanks to the governments of Turkey, Jordan, and Egypt for their assistance, particularly Turkey for helping to retrieve our citizens from Ashdod,’ Sugiono added.
