Golkar Unfazed by Jokowi's Political Safari: He Was Once PDIP, Now PSI

Golkar Party Deputy Chairman Ahmad Doli Kurnia has responded to the commencement of 7th Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) nationwide safari, during which he wore attire bearing the PSI logo in Lampung. Doli stated that Jokowi has political rights. “As an Indonesian citizen, Mr Jokowi certainly has the same political rights as other citizens. Even though he was once President, both before and after, his status is the same as an ordinary citizen,” Doli told reporters on Saturday (27/6/2026). Doli said there is no issue if Jokowi asserts his political identity through a particular party. According to him, changing political affiliations is a normal occurrence in political dynamics. “Therefore, there is no problem if he has political aspirations and asserts his political identity through a specific political party. He was once a PDIP cadre, now he has moved to become a PSI cadre, it is something ordinary,” he said. The Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Legislation Body assessed that the safari Jokowi is undertaking can be interpreted as part of PSI’s internal agenda. According to him, Jokowi has programmes and agendas with the party’s ranks. “And as a party leader, he certainly has an agenda with all PSI administrators and ranks. So, we interpret the ‘roadshow’ he is doing as part of the party’s plans and programmes. It is the same as us in Golkar who also have a party consolidation agenda,” he said. “Nevertheless, we hope he can also position himself as a father and national figure who is a parent to all of us,” he added. It is known that Jokowi has begun his nationwide safari by flying to Lampung. Jokowi said one of the missions in his visit agenda is to provide motivation to PSI so that it becomes a large political machine. As reported by detikJateng, Jokowi said he would be accompanied by PSI Chairman Kaesang Pangarep on his safari. He was also seen wearing a shirt and cap bearing the PSI logo. “For PSI, I want to provide motivation, and also convey important messages so that the structure of PSI is completed soon, so that it becomes a large political machine,” he said on Friday (26/6).
