Golkar: The Handshake Between Prabowo and Megawati is a Call for Unity

Golkar Party Vice Chairman Ahmad Doli Kurnia has responded to the moment President Prabowo Subianto and the 5th President of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, held hands following the Pancasila Day ceremony. Doli assessed that the moment serves as an important symbol for national unity.

“To build and advance a country as large as Indonesia, we must all join hands,” Doli told reporters on Tuesday (2/6/2026).

“Especially in facing the current situation, we need solidity, togetherness, and synergy from all elements of the nation, and that must begin with our national figures,” he added.

According to him, the togetherness of political elites is key to maintaining national stability. The Deputy Chairman of the DPR Legislation Committee believes that synergy between national figures needs to be continuously strengthened.

“The handshake between Mr Prabowo and Mrs Megawati should be interpreted by all of us as an invitation to remain united and always stand together in facing whatever situations and challenges the Indonesian nation faces,” he stated.

Previously, Prabowo and Megawati attended the Pancasila Day ceremony. Prabowo and Megawati appeared amicable during the event.

The ceremony was held at the Pancasila Building courtyard, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Central Jakarta, on Monday (1/6/2026). Vice President Gibran Rakabuming was also in attendance.

Following the ceremony, the warmth between Prabowo and Megawati was once again visible. Prabowo was initially seen conversing with the 10th and 12th Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) and the 13th Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, while Megawati was seen standing behind JK and Ma’ruf Amin.

Prabowo then invited Megawati, JK, and Ma’ruf Amin to proceed. However, Megawati invited Prabowo to walk together.

Megawati was seen holding Prabowo’s hand as the two walked together, appearing to share a laugh.
