Golkar suggests RUU on Elections should be discussed soon
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Golkar Party Faction in the House of Representatives, Muhammad Sarmuji, suggested that the Draft Law (RUU) on Amendments to Law No. 7 of 2017 on General Elections (Pemilu) should be discussed as soon as possible.
According to him, the stages of the 2029 General Elections will commence at the end of 2026, specifically with the recruitment of election organisers. He stated that this would not be optimal if the RUU on Elections has not yet been finalised.
“So if this law is to be amended, we must start the discussions immediately,” said Sarmuji at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday.
He mentioned that the Golkar Party Faction in the House of Representatives has no issue if there is no revision to the Elections Law. However, he also hopes for improvements to the election system through such a revision.
“It could be that those matters become considerations. But we’ll see later, we’ll analyse how important it is to start the discussions soon,” he said.
If the RUU on Elections is only to be discussed starting in 2027, according to him, certain stages would need to be shortened and adjusted to the new Elections Law.
“But from the Golkar Party Faction, if it’s to be amended, the discussions should be conducted as soon as possible,” said the General Secretary of the Golkar Party.
