JAKARTA — Golkar Party Secretary General and DPR Golkar Faction Chair M Sarmuji stated he undertook the Hajj pilgrimage as an ordinary citizen while reviewing Indonesian pilgrims’ services in the Holy Land this year.

“This year, I performed Hajj as a regular citizen and inspected several sectors of Indonesian pilgrims. Alhamdulillah, there has been significant improvement in services,” Sarmuji said in a statement on Thursday, 28 May 2026.

Sarmuji recounted that in 2023, he served as a member of the DPR Hajj Oversight Team (Timwas) to witness issues in Hajj management, including food, accommodation, and transportation.

Now, returning to Saudi Arabia as a regular pilgrim, Sarmuji observed encouraging changes.

“In 2023, as a member of the Hajj Oversight Team, we encountered numerous problems with food, accommodation, and transportation,” he said.

He noted that no significant complaints were reported this year.

Sarmuji also claimed the peak Hajj rituals in Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina (Armuzna) proceeded smoothly.

“I asked pilgrims in three sectors. Most reported no major issues with this year’s Hajj management. Similarly, the execution at Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina was relatively smooth and well-controlled,” he added.

Sarmuji praised the Hajj officials for being more disciplined and professional compared to previous years.

He commended the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah for its persistent efforts in improving services annually.

He argued that the enhanced quality experienced by pilgrims is clear evidence of the government’s serious commitment to providing top-tier services.

“Hajj officials were more disciplined this year than in recent years. They carried out their duties effectively,” Sarmuji said.

“Because I was present not as an overseer, I could experience what pilgrims truly felt. What I experienced was significantly better service. This achievement must be honestly acknowledged—the Ministry of Hajj has worked hard and the results are tangible,” he added.
