Golkar Secretary-General Instructs Elected Legislators Not to Change Mobile Numbers

Golkar Party Secretary-General M Sarmuji has requested that party cadres elected as legislators refrain from changing their mobile phone numbers. Sarmuji stated that the party frequently hears complaints from citizens alleging that legislators change their numbers after being elected. He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the Golkar Party Academy Training of Trainers event at the DPP Golkar office in West Jakarta on Monday (3/8/2026). Sarmuji initially urged legislators to maintain their grassroots connections. “For members of the DPR RI, it is mandatory to maintain grassroots ties. It is mandatory to look after their constituents. Because however you look at it, the party can only grow if its grassroots and constituents are nurtured, especially for members of the DPR RI or DPRD in their respective electoral districts,” Sarmuji said. He then requested that elected legislators not change their mobile phone numbers. Sarmuji does not wish to hear further complaints about legislators who change their numbers. “We do not want to hear the people’s expression that we often hear: when they are campaigning, DPR RI or DPRD members hand out their mobile numbers. ‘Here is my number, contact me if you have any problems.’ But once they are elected, they change their number so they cannot be reached. We do not want Golkar cadres to be like that,” he stated. Sarmuji insisted that Golkar legislators must always be contactable by the public, enabling them to hear the people’s aspirations. “We want DPR RI or provincial and district/city DPRD members to always maintain contact with their constituents, to be reachable at any time, and to listen to the aspirations of the people they represent,” he explained. Sarmuji also urged party cadres to be active in their local communities and to provide benefits and influence to the surrounding society. “We ask all Golkar cadres to provide the maximum benefit in their immediate environment, in their RT and RW. If there is a Golkar cadre who is of no benefit in their RT and RW, we need to call them in for an upgrade. Because the presence of the Golkar Party in its respective areas, in its respective places, around its respective residences, must have influence, must have a role, and must provide benefits to the surrounding community,” he added.
