Golkar Says Jokowi's Support for Prabowo-Gibran for Two Terms Shatters 'Two Suns' Issue

Golkar Party Deputy Chairman Ahmad Doli Kurnia has responded to 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) urging that the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka be safeguarded for two terms. Doli assessed that this support shatters efforts by certain parties attempting to sow discord between Jokowi and Prabowo by promoting the ‘two suns’ narrative.

“The message conveyed by Mr Jokowi is actually more of an affirmation that, firstly, the current President, acting as head of state and head of government, is Mr Prabowo. This is to address the ‘two suns’ elements that have been developed to drive a wedge between Solo and Hambalang. So in my view, that statement of affirmation is good and indeed should be so,” Doli told journalists on Saturday (20/6/2026).

The Deputy Chairman of the House Legislation Body said this affirmation is key to ensuring all parties within the government must focus on successfully delivering the Prabowo-Gibran programmes until completion. He expressed hope that this concentration would not be disrupted by interruptions from political agendas.

“Relevant to that, I think we must focus on efforts to make all government agendas and programmes a success. Our concentration should not be interrupted by the 2029 political agenda, which is still far off. Presidential election matters have their time, we will discuss them closer to 2029. If all government programmes are delivered, God willing, we will not experience difficulties facing the presidential election,” he said.

Golkar, Doli stated, is always committed to safeguarding the Prabowo-Gibran administration. Golkar is also encouraging Prabowo and Gibran to run again in the 2029 Presidential Election.

“The Golkar Party’s stance is clear, we will be at the forefront safeguarding and ensuring the success of the Prabowo-Gibran administration, because we are confident that with the success of this government, it will be easy for us to continue Mr Prabowo’s leadership for a second term, which we have already decided at the Golkar Party National Leadership Meeting forum,” he said.

“Regarding the running mate, in due time we will leave it entirely to Mr Prabowo, although we hope Mr Gibran can remain together,” Doli continued.

The directive from Jokowi requesting that Prabowo-Gibran be safeguarded for two terms was conveyed by the Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) DPP, Bestari Barus. Jokowi asked PSI and its sympathisers to safeguard the Prabowo-Gibran administration.

“To us, he conveyed that we are asked to safeguard Mr Prabowo-Gibran, even, even for two terms. So there is no slander about there being two suns. How can there be two suns? It’s nonsense,” Bestari told journalists on Friday (18/6/2026).
