Golkar’s Deputy Chairman and Commission II member of the House of Representatives Ahmad Doli Kurnia has responded to PKB Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar’s, commonly known as Cak Imin, proposal for civil servants to work from home or work-from-home (WFH) owing to impacts from the Middle East conflict. Doli believes the proposal requires careful consideration.

“Generally speaking, I see the proposal as good. The essence is about cost savings that must be made in anticipation of potential economic crises. We certainly need to start anticipating all possible crises that may occur,” Doli told reporters on Monday (16 March 2026).

However, Doli cautioned that any work-from-home policy for civil servants must not interfere with public service delivery. According to him, the work of civil servants is closely tied to service to the public.

“Nevertheless, the proposal for civil servants to work from home needs careful consideration first,” he said.

“Firstly, civil servants are closely linked to public service work. We must not allow unmeasured cost savings to result in neglecting public service duties,” he added.

Doli stated that if a work-from-home policy is implemented, the government must first map out the types of civil service work that can be performed from home.

“Even if there is a work-from-home policy, it must be mapped out—which clusters of civil service work can be applied,” he said.

Additionally, he argued that the government also needs to establish clear work systems, including assignment models, work targets or achievements, and mechanisms for reporting, evaluation, and oversight.

“Secondly, work systems must be prepared, starting from assignment models, targets and achievements, reporting mechanisms, evaluation, and oversight,” he said.

Earlier, Cak Imin proposed a work-from-home policy for civil servants. He stated that this could serve as a means of fuel efficiency in the face of potential economic impacts from the United States-Israel conflict with Iran in the Middle East.

“Jakarta traffic wastes fuel, yet if the conflict war does not stop soon, fuel prices will rise. So how? By having civil servants work from home, limiting those who come to the office. But this is just my proposal. My proposal is as a form of reducing fuel consumption,” Cak Imin said at the PKB Central Board office in Central Jakarta on Sunday (15 March).

Cak Imin proposed energy efficiency measures in office buildings and ordered the PKB Central Board office to implement such measures.
