Golkar Requests Ministry of Transport to Evaluate Green Taxi Operations Following Train Accident
Golkar’s Deputy Chair of Commission V in the DPR and Chairman of the West Java Golkar branch, Daniel Mutaqien, has requested that the Ministry of Transport (Kemenhub) immediately conduct a thorough evaluation following the train accident at Bekasi Timur Station. He stated that the evaluation must cover technical factors up to external parties suspected of triggering the incident.
“The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Indonesia is urged to take swift and comprehensive steps in conducting the evaluation, not only on railway technical aspects but also on external parties suspected of being the initial trigger of the incident,” Daniel said in his statement on Thursday (30/4/2026).
“One of the main focuses is the operations of the green taxis from Green SM Indonesia at the incident location,” he added.
He mentioned that there are several public complaints regarding the operations of these taxis, particularly related to driving behaviour deemed to neglect safety aspects.
“In various reports, the taxi fleet is said to often drive aggressively on public roads. Therefore, further investigation is needed to ensure whether there are operational standard violations that contributed to this incident,” he stated.
In addition, he highlighted that vehicles can stop right on the railway crossing, which should be kept sterile. This, according to him, indicates the need for evaluation of on-site supervision.
“Urging the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Indonesia to conduct a thorough evaluation of the operational licensing aspects of Green SM, including fleet worthiness, driver safety standards, and compliance with applicable transport regulations,” he revealed.
“This evaluation is deemed important to ensure that all public transport operators truly meet the established safety standards,” he continued.
Daniel emphasised that the audit and investigation must be conducted transparently and accountably. He hopes the investigation results can serve as a basis for future policy improvements.
“The evaluation results are expected to serve as a basis for future policy improvements, both in road transport supervision and its integration with the railway system, so that public safety can be maintained and public trust can be restored,” he said.
As is known, the Argo Bromo Anggrek train collided with a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday (27/4) night. The incident resulted in 16 people dead and 90 others injured.
At the time of the accident, a Green SM taxi was temporarily stopped in the middle of the railway tracks not far from Bekasi Timur Station due to an electrical short circuit issue. The taxi was then hit by a KRL travelling from Cikarang towards Jakarta. The KRL involved in the accident with the taxi then stopped in the middle of the tracks.
On the other hand, there was a KRL heading to Cikarang that stopped at Bekasi Timur Station as a result of the incident between the Jakarta-bound KRL and the Green SM taxi. It was this KRL stopped at Bekasi Timur Station that was subsequently hit by the Argo Bromo Anggrek train travelling from Jakarta.
