Golkar politician fed up with Golkar

DILI: Golkar politician Manuel Viegas Carrascalao says he is losing faith in the party's East Timor chapter, which he has represented for 15 years.

Carrascalao, a former Portuguese member of parliament, said Monday that Golkar had picked unpopular candidates to represent locals in the provincial legislative council.

"I'm very disappointed because Golkar has chosen figures that people hate representing them in the council," he said. "That means forcing people to accept something they don't like."

Carrascalao, a younger brother of former East Timor governor Mario Viegas Carrascalao, represents Golkar on the council.

While Carrascalao will not quit the party, he said it was against his principles to campaign for Golkar because it did not defend the people. (33)
