Golkar on Prabowo's Warning: Those Paying for Protests Should Stop

Golkar Party Secretary-General M Sarmuji has responded to President Prabowo Subianto’s warning against parties funding demonstrations. Sarmuji cautioned that such parties should stop immediately. He initially expressed confidence that Prabowo’s warning was based on information received, believing that state apparatus are capable of detecting such activities. “The President’s signal is based on information he has received. There are state apparatus who can detect it,” Sarmuji said when contacted on Thursday (25/6/2026). He therefore warned those still paying for protests to stop disrupting national stability. “So those paying or funding should not continue. Especially if the aim is to disrupt stability,” he said. Sarmuji stressed that the government still respects critical views. However, he continued, such criticism must not disrupt the government’s efforts to improve welfare. “We still respect criticism, but it must not disrupt the running of the government which is working hard to improve the people’s welfare,” he said. The warning was delivered by Prabowo at the XVII National Farmers and Fishermen’s Week (Penas) peak event in Gorontalo on Wednesday (24/6). Prabowo touched on several issues in his speech, including recent demonstrations in various regions. Prabowo said he knew the actors behind the protests. He stated that these parties do not like him and stressed that he knows who the corrupt individuals are. Prabowo alluded to these parties being involved in providing payments for recent demonstrations and issued them a warning. “Ladies and gentlemen, be careful. I am giving them a warning. I know who is paying for the protests, I know that. But it’s fine, go ahead and protest. Ask them, ask the protesters, they don’t understand. What do you want to protest about? Hmm. ‘We were paid Rp 200,000,’ they say. But there are. I don’t understand,” he said.
