Golkar official accused in beating

WAMENA, Irian Jaya: About 100 residents in Jayawijaya regency held a demonstration in Sinakma, Hubikosi village, to demand that the chairman of the local Golkar Party chapter take responsibility for allegedly beating up a villager.

Wamena parish priest John Ph. Saklil told The Jakarta Post the demonstration led by Yemius Miage was held on the grounds of the regional legislative council.

Antara had reported from Wamena that Golkar chairman and head of the regional council Budiman Kogeya beat a local, Lari Kogeya, for building a traditional house (honai) on his land, injuring Lari's right hand. Another local, Inapelek Pase, also was beaten. His left hand and two ribs were reportedly broken. (34)
