Golkar Legislator: Police Law is Very Progressive!
Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Soedeson Tandra, stated that the National Police Law absorbs public aspirations. He called the new law very progressive. ‘Yes, this revision of the Police Law accommodates several matters. Firstly, we want to clarify the status of police officers serving outside the institution. Secondly, we are also strengthening the authority of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas),’ Tandra said when contacted on Tuesday (9/6/2026). He mentioned that the Police Law also regulates the retirement age limit from non-commissioned officer levels up to four-star generals. The Golkar legislator stated that the sanctions for police officers who violate regulations are also serious. ‘Thirdly, we discuss the retirement age limit. Fourthly, we are firming up sanctions for police officers who violate the rules. Specifically regarding sanctions, if they are convicted of a crime, they are immediately dismissed. Secondly, if they violate the code of ethics, they are immediately terminated,’ he added. Tandra said that there is thus a permanent legal umbrella for taking action against members of the National Police who violate regulations. He described the Police Law as a form of progress. ‘Immediately (dismissed). However, the ruling must have permanent legal force. So in my opinion, this Police Law is extremely progressive,’ he said. It is known that the DPR RI ratified the revision of the Law on the Third Amendment to Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the Indonesian National Police (RUU Polri). This decision was taken during the 21st plenary meeting of the fifth session period of the 2025-2026 sitting year.
