Golkar Karangasem Accelerates Preparations for 2029 Legislative Elections, Begins Scouting Candidates
Although the 2029 legislative elections are still three years away, the Karangasem DPD of the Golkar Party has begun ramping up its political machinery by scouting potential legislative candidates at a rate of up to 200 per cent across all sub-districts. This move is intended to prepare cadres early to maximise votes and increase Golkar’s legislative seats in Karangasem in the upcoming elections.
“Our preparation must indeed begin well in advance, to avoid any incidents that could disadvantage the Golkar Party, particularly in Karangasem,” said the Chairman of the Karangasem Golkar DPD, I Gusti Ngurah Setiawan (Gus Sombi), on Saturday (6/6/2026).
According to Gus Sombi, all party officials in each sub-district have been instructed to immediately identify cadres deemed to have electoral potential. Those selected are expected to immediately begin engaging with the community.
“With long-term preparation, the selected cadres will know they are being nominated by the Golkar Party. This allows them to start working on the ground and building approaches with the public,” Gus Sombi added.
In addition to strengthening its voter base, the scouting process is also being conducted to meet the 30 per cent quota for women’s representation in the 2029 elections. However, Golkar Karangasem acknowledged that the number of active female cadres remains limited.
“Regarding the 30 per cent female quota, we can meet it, but finding those with true potential requires more intensive grooming to ensure they are active in community engagement,” said Gus Sombi.
He expressed hope that the cadres eventually appointed as legislative candidates will actively promote the Golkar Party while engaging with the public. Through these efforts, the electability of the banyan tree-symbolised party in Karangasem is expected to continue increasing.
