Golkar Golf Tour in six cities

Around 12 amateur golfers took part in the opening round of the Golkar Golf Tour at the Martabe Sejahtera Golf Course in Medan, North Sumatra, here Sunday.

The Medan tournament was part of the six-leg tournament planned in six different cities: Batam on Dec. 24, Bali on Jan. 8, Yogyakarta on Jan. 22, Surabaya on Feb. 5 and Jakarta on Feb. 19.

"This is the first tournament to be held in the tour. We are politicizing the tournament but aiming to popularize the sport among the people," chairman of the organizing committee Halim Kalla said.

He said that each leg would provide up to Rp 300 million in cash prizes. --JP
