Golkar goings on

From Media Indonesia

The fact it was decided at the recently concluded Golkar
convention to postpone electing the party's presidential
candidate until after the general elections has led to the
disappointment of some of Golkar's potential presidential
candidates.

As a result the convention has been thought not as a means for
the party to boost its popularity but rather as a political ploy
that reeks of the old tricks that Golkar used to employ.

At first, the convention was expected to serve as a
breakthrough in Indonesia's political practices. Unfortunately,
the postponement has led to criticisms from within the party
itself with some quarters hinting at suspected unfair practices
during the convention. If these unfair practices continue, the
result will not be good for Golkar in the upcoming general
elections.

Earlier a potential presidential candidate withdrew from the
convention. This was the right step to take because other parties
are also ready to nominate the country's political figures as
their presidential candidates.
