Golkar: Fahd Arafiq case serves as a lesson and correction for cadre development
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy General Chair of the Golkar Party, Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung, stated that the case of Fahd El Fouz Arafiq, who has repeatedly been named a suspect in alleged corruption cases, serves as a subject for correction and evaluation for the party in its cadre development.
“We are certainly taking many lessons from Mr Fahd’s case. This incident will serve as an evaluative note and a correction for us moving forward,” Doli said in a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Doli stated that Golkar is concerned and regrets the arrest of the party’s DPP Chair for mass organisations relations. According to him, the party always reminds all cadres not to engage in illegal practices, particularly criminal acts of corruption.
He assessed that the case ensnaring Fahd once again should serve as a lesson for the individual to be deterred, to introspect, and to improve himself.
Doli explained that Golkar has consistently provided opportunities for cadres who have served their sentences to return to service within the party. This policy is based on respect for the efforts of cadres who have undergone punishment to atone for their mistakes and reform themselves.
However, according as him, Fahd’s case demonstrates that such trust was not accompanied by a change in the individual’s personal behaviour.
Doli acknowledged that Fahd has contributed to the development of the Golkar Party. Nevertheless, he stated that Fahd’s actions as an individual do not reflect the party’s commitment to maintaining its good reputation.
“The individual failed to realise that on his shoulders rests the great name of the Golkar Party, which must be protected. Naturally, as the large family of the Golkar Party, we are very disappointed and angry,” he said.
He also emphasised that Golkar respects and supports the legal process currently being conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as part of the party’s commitment to anti-corruption efforts.
Fahd Arafiq was named a suspect by the KPK in an alleged corruption case within the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency. This marks the third time Fahd has been named a suspect in a bribery case.
Previously, he was a suspect in an alleged corruption case related to the budget allocation for the Regional Infrastructure Development Acceleration (PPID) programme in 2011.
Additionally, he was also a suspect in an alleged corruption case involving the procurement of the Al-Quran in 2011–2012 and the procurement of computer laboratories for Madrasah Tsanawiyah in 2011 at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
