Golkar Faction Urges State to Enhance Human Resources and Ensure Workers Keep Pace with the Times
JAKARTA - The Chairman of the Golkar Party faction in the DPR, M. Sarmuji, emphasised the importance of improving the quality of Indonesian workers’ human resources (HR) so as not to be left behind amid the increasingly rapid changes in the world of work.
Sarmuji expressed this during the commemoration of International Labour Day or May Day 2026.
He assessed that this momentum is not only to commemorate the workers’ struggles but also to strengthen the workforce’s readiness to face the era of digitalisation.
“The state must be present to ensure that workers are not left behind by the changes of the times. Training programmes and skill enhancement must be expanded so that our workforce is able to compete at the global level,” said Sarmuji in his statement on Saturday (2/5/2026).
The Secretary General of the Golkar Party assessed that the transformation of the world of work due to digitalisation demands serious strategies in developing workers’ competencies. Without relevant skill improvements, workers risk being left behind and finding it difficult to compete.
In addition to training, Sarmuji also highlighted the importance of building healthy industrial relations between workers and employers.
“Healthy industrial relations must be built on the principles of mutual respect, open dialogue, and equal partnership,” said Sarmuji.
He encouraged that social dialogue between labour unions, employers, and the government continue to be strengthened, both at the company level and in the formulation of national policies.
According to him, good communication will prevent conflicts and produce fair solutions.
On the other hand, Sarmuji also reminded the importance of protection for workers’ rights, including social security, occupational safety, as well as certainty of decent wages.
He added that harmonious industrial relations will have a positive impact on the investment climate and open up more job opportunities.
Sarmuji invited all parties to make May Day a momentum for collaboration.
“With harmonious cooperation between workers, employers, and the government, we are optimistic that we can realise a more just, prosperous, and competitive Indonesia,” concluded Sarmuji.
