Golkar Faction Alleges Illegal Tourism Accommodations in Denpasar Enjoy 'Protection'

The Golkar faction in the Denpasar City Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) has alleged that illegal tourism accommodations in the area are operating under the protection of certain individuals. The claim was made during a plenary session discussing the accountability report for the 2025 fiscal year budget on Tuesday (14/7/2026).

Faction member Yonathan Andre Baskoro stated that these unlicensed accommodations are causing a leakage in the Specific Goods and Services Tax (PBJT) and creating unfair competition for legally operating businesses. He urged the city government to form a special task force comprising the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (DPMPTSP), and the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) to conduct regular field inspections and cross-check property data against online booking platforms.

“With a digital tax database, this firm action is essential to enforce regulations and maintain a fair and sustainable tourism climate,” Baskoro asserted.

In response, Deputy Mayor I Kadek Agus Arya Wibawa confirmed the administration would immediately follow up on the report. He stated that the government would communicate with the Golkar faction to verify the information, noting that it is crucial to determine whether the issue is merely a rumour or a practice that has been ongoing for years.
