Golkar Deputy Chairman on Reshuffle Issue: Prabowo Knows Best
Deputy Chairman (Waketum) of the Golkar Party, Ahmad Doli Kurnia, responded to calls from experts who believe it is time for President Prabowo Subianto to reshuffle ministers in the Merah Putih Cabinet amid uncertain geopolitical conditions. Doli said only Prabowo knows best when to overhaul his cabinet.
“First of all, my standard answer would be that a cabinet reshuffle is the absolute authority or prerogative of the President, Mr Prabowo. Naturally, he is the one who can assess it best,” Doli said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday (6/4/2026).
Doli stated that Prabowo knows the best steps regarding the cabinet he leads. Nevertheless, he assessed that the situation in the cabinet still appears stable so far.
“Whether any situation faced, including the current international geopolitical situation, has an impact on Indonesia such that steps must be taken, including on reshuffle. Mr Prabowo knows that best,” Doli said.
“But so far, I think the policies taken by the Indonesian government have appeared stable up to now,” he added.
He cited other countries that have begun raising fuel prices in response to the conflict in the Middle East. According to him, ministers in the Merah Putih Cabinet have already taken several progressive steps.
“For example, in other countries, fuel prices have risen, but not here. And our fuel stocks, up to today, the government states are still safe, as is our food situation,” he said.
He stated that the Merah Putih Cabinet quickly adapts to the existing situation. He hopes the ministers’ performance can remain consistent.
“So, it means that Mr Prabowo and his cabinet have so far taken anticipatory steps and policies that can quickly adjust to the situation,” Doli said.
“Even though we are also worried if this continues for a long time, ongoing like this, we are concerned it will impact, well, as I said earlier, if previously we didn’t raise prices, we don’t want to,” he continued.
It is known that the reshuffle issue has emerged linked to uncertain geopolitical and economic conditions amid conflicts involving America, Israel, Iran, and Gulf countries. M Jamiluddin Ritonga, a political communication expert from Esa Unggul University, stated that ministers as policymakers must have the ability to solve problems and act systematically.
“In the midst of global uncertainty, Prabowo Subianto’s cabinet cannot just carry out routine tasks. Ministers who only perform routines will be trapped in various emerging problems,” Jamiluddin told reporters on Tuesday (31/3).
He suggested that ministers weak in problem-solving should be replaced. Jamiluddin does not want such ministers to become a burden to the cabinet.
“So, during this energy crisis, Prabowo should evaluate his ministers. Ministers weak in problem-solving should be reshuffled. Because ministers like this only become a burden to Prabowo,” he added.
