Golkar Criticises Saiful Mujani's Statement on Prabowo: The People Are the Ones Who Suffer

Golkar Party Secretary-General M Sarmuji has criticised the viral remarks by political analyst Saiful Mujani regarding “bringing down Prabowo”. Sarmuji drew an analogy with a train.

“Do not stop a train that is already in motion, because the train is running on the right track to reach the predetermined destination,” Sarmuji told reporters on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

He said that stopping a moving train would disadvantage the passengers. He stated that the passengers, or the people, would be the ones to protest if the train were stopped.

“Later, it won’t be the driver protesting, but the passengers. If the train stops, the ordinary people will be the ones harmed,” he said.

Sarmuji noted that President Prabowo Subianto was elected constitutionally. He invited all parties to support Prabowo’s government.

“We already have a stable and constitutional national leadership circulation. The government under President Prabowo’s leadership is working hard to achieve its vision while approaching the national goal of creating a just and prosperous society,” he stated.

Palace Responds

The video of Saiful Mujani talking about bringing down Prabowo is currently circulating widely on social media. In the circulating video, Saiful Mujani spoke about toppling Prabowo to save the nation.

“My alternative is not through formal procedures like impeachment, that won’t work. The only way is this: can we consolidate ourselves to bring down Prabowo, that’s it. If advising Prabowo doesn’t work, the only option is to bring him down. That’s saving, not saving Prabowo, but saving ourselves and this nation,” said Saiful Mujani in the viral video, as seen on Sunday (5/4).

Deputy State Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya then responded to it. He said there is still much work to be done.

“Wow, I still have a lot of work. I haven’t seen what he said. Something like that,” Teddy said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4).

Teddy said Prabowo is focused on big matters. He mentioned that Prabowo is working on many more strategic things.

“Especially the President, handling big things. Focusing on more strategic matters and so on,” he stated.
