Jakarta – Golkar Deputy Chairman Ahmad Doli Kurnia said the party had not taken a position on the Supreme Court ruling that declared invalid the certificate recognising the equivalence of Vice-President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s high school diploma. Golkar is waiting for guidance from its chairman, Bahlil Lahadalia.

“Within Golkar, representation in discussions between political parties is entrusted to the chairman,” Doli told reporters at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (2 November 2026).

Doli said he believed discussions among political parties about the ruling had already taken place, but he did not know how far they had progressed.

“I think these discussions must already have happened, because political party leaders meet in the Cabinet almost every day. There may have been discussions, but we will wait for information from our chairman about the level they have reached,” he said.

Doli said Golkar respected the views of PDIP and the Democratic Party, which have called on Gibran to resign as vice-president following the Supreme Court ruling. Golkar will conduct an in-depth review of the Constitutional Court and Supreme Court decisions.

“Each political party is entitled to express its views. Golkar is currently examining the matter closely, particularly given the Supreme Court ruling. We have also been studying the Constitutional Court’s ruling,” Doli said.

The Supreme Court granted an appeal in a case concerning the validity of the certificate recognising the equivalence of Gibran’s high school diploma. This was set out in the ruling in case No. 742 K/TUN/2026, brought by a citizen named Subhan.

The court declared the certificate invalid and void by law.

“Ruling: appeal granted; the lower court’s judgment overturned; the court adjudicates the case itself and grants the plaintiff’s claim in full,” read an excerpt from the ruling, cited on Friday (30 October 2026).

The decision invalidated the certificate of equivalence for Gibran’s high school education issued by the Ministry of Education, formally declaring it invalid.
