Golkar and PKS Discuss Election Bill, Agree on 5 Per Cent Parliamentary Threshold

The Central Executive Board of PKS visited the Golkar Party headquarters to affirm its support for the governing coalition of President Prabowo and Gibran Rakabuming on Monday (14/9) evening.

The meeting also discussed the Election Bill, which is currently undergoing public consultation in Commission II of the House of Representatives. Among other points, the two parties agreed to change the parliamentary threshold from 4 to 5 per cent.

“For instance, on the parliamentary threshold. We agreed on a moderate figure, around 5 per cent,” said Golkar Secretary-General Muhammad Sarmuji when contacted on Tuesday (15/9).

Meanwhile, in a written statement, Golkar Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia praised PKS for holding an important position as a member of the governing coalition.

Regarding the Election Bill, Bahlil wants the future electoral system to genuinely represent the people’s interests. He said the two parties would continue communicating to discuss the bill in greater detail.

“We want an electoral system that still reflects the voice of the people, but also allows quality members of the House to emerge,” he said.

Meanwhile, PKS President Al Muzammil Yusuf said the party would continue supporting every strategic government programme. He said Prabowo has long played an important role in resolving issues facing the Muslim community.

“Someone once asked about PKS’s presence in the Prabowo-Gibran governing coalition. I answered that it is because Mr Prabowo is very accommodating towards the community’s concerns and has never marginalised them,” he said.

Muzammil said the visit to Golkar could strengthen ties among coalition members. He believes the two parties share many areas of potential cooperation.

“PKS came to the Golkar Party because of personal closeness and a shared vision for Indonesia. I am confident there is much we can work on together with Golkar,” he said.
